I'm a fan of the original series and I gotta tell you, it's a complete letdown and extremely disappointing. As always, any idiot who manages to get their money-grubby hands on someone else's IP ruins another creators original creation. The live-action "Net-remake" isn't the worst thing ever produced but it's far from perfect and far from redeemed or redeemable. I was captivated by the first fight scene with Aang's village and kind of liked the serious tone at first but realized this doesn't click together. All of the early important key plot points are removed (as mentioned by others) such as Roku being his first avatar contact. Instead it's.... Kyoshi????? Jet brings the Avatar gang into Omashu when, they themselves just walked in with no need of help. The characters don't have much of the life in them compared to this adaptation. It's way better than the 2010 crap bag we got way back then at least but doesn't come close to the same liveliness, fun and adventurous tone as the animated show. And Aang couldn't use his full avatar state powers in the original, yet when on Kyoshi island, he suddenly can. This is basically Star Wars where what's her face had no Jedi training before, but can somehow suddenly mind control stormtroopers. Yeah, just let them have the powers that they HAVE TO TRAIN FOR in the beginning for no reason. Yeah, make absolute no sense. Same thing happen with Korra's story too. "I'm the avatar, you gotta deal with it!" 👈 this right here is happening all over again. Netflix, get your crap straight!
I first saw One Piece somewhere in the early to mid 2000's (03-04 perhaps?) on Kids WB when I was a kid. Then some time later, it appeared on Cartoon Network. So when I decided to check it out, I absolutely hated it but I didn't know why at the time. When I decided to research(recently) what the difference was with what I saw as a kid, I realized it was the studio who produced it the 04 dub, 4Kids Entertainment. Those guys just made bad dubs and they're lucky that Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh were such huge hits(both were childhood favorites of mine when the explosion occurred). I guess when you're a kid you don't notice these things. But once Funimation made their dubs, I started watching OP when I got a subscription from them and that I got caught up with most of my shows. Although not perfect, the VOA is way better than the 4Kids dub. The show at first ticked me off with making the MC (Luffy) an incompetent moron. But since that was a part of his comedic charm, I eventually got over it. Anyway, there are many things to like about this anime; its funny, action-packed, it's beautiful use of its color palette, the locations, the interaction between characters. Although I don't know how I feel about the story, as it seems to change a lot. For some people they don't like how long the show is. But personally I like it like that because I have a lot to watch, similarly to Dragon Ball. I love having 100's of episodes to watch. Of course, there are WAY too many characters to keep up with but at least they all aren't recurring. My favorite part of the show is simply the adventure: the journey, not the destination itself. Just seeing how the characters change and grow stronger over time. I really love it now and I totally recommend it to action/adventure fans.
I was roughly 5 when this show came out but didn't really start watching it perhaps until somewhere in 2000. I originally watched some amount of episodes before becoming dismissive of it. I think part of the reason why had to do with the theme song which I thought was stupid back then(even though it is kinda catchy). The other part being was that I don't think I was able to entirely understand what was going on. Around that time, Pokèmon was all the rage, the 1st movie came out and that's all most kids cared about. It would take well over 2 decades for this show to resurface in my memory, entice me to go back and give the show a second chance. And man I'm glad that I did! This show truly is a gem even though there are flaws with it. This is also the type of show that a lot of kids either didn't understand or most kids wouldn't be able to watch it since they would be in school by the time it was on. It would usually come on in the mornings from what I remember. I looked through some of the reviews by others and some were critical of it but only mentioned other movies and some people complaining about the the CGI. Dude, get the hell over it, it was released in 1999-2001. You arent really going to get fantastic CGI visuals in this time period. It really is an interesting watch though. Although it bothered me a lot knowing that the show did not have a real ending. Nothing on confronting Moriarty and him finally dying or being thrown in jail. The show just abruptly ends on Lestrade's "new partner", which is really weird. Either the writers were out of ideas or the show just didn't perform well enough to greenlight a 3rd season. Regardless of that fact, the show is very enjoyable if you don't have an over critical mind about it, you can enjoy the show too.
