Although labeled as a horror, this movie comes across more as a slow burn psychological drama. If you're expecting a jump scare, ghostly horror, this isn't it (thankfully!). Instead what you get is a movie with an overall desolate atmosphere with one or two interesting twists that you may not see coming.
This is not a "sit down with your friends" type of movie on a Friday night, it's more of a movie you put on when you're by yourself and just want something that's more character based and gives you an uneasy feeling. Some people may find it a bit too slow and I admit, there are a few plot points that simply don't make sense overall. However there are some great performances to be found here, the cinematography looks amazing for the budget and overall, with a tighter script, this would be a classic.
With Winter fast approaching and the evenings getting darker and longer, this may be a movie you'll want to have queued up on your watch list for when you're looking for something just a little bit different.

Seth, what happened? You started by making a funny show that managed to have some clever plots and engaging characters. Sure, Star Trek already did most of the plots, but The Orville still managed to stay engaging thanks to the humor, witty one liners and the fact you could relate to how characters reacted to situations.
Season 2 was a little more serious, but still managed to keep some humor alive without sacrificing story telling.
I just watched the first episode of Season 3..... totally devoid of humor altogether. Sure there seems to have been a budget increase but even the sets seem much colder and devoid of life. We're treated to some bizarre script choices that are just unbelievable (Gordon is really going to test a space fighter and blow up drones......... in a space dock.... where people are outside working on ships... give me a break! Does the future not have an OSHA department?). It seems that the show sacrificed story, plot and humor for an attempt to show off how much CGI they can afford. This is not why we tuned into The Orville to begin with. The series was a lovable homage to Star Trek, it is now a cheap imitation of Star Trek, Battle Star Galactica and Battlefield Earth....
Seasons 1 and 2 were clever witty and funny, but these traits have obviously been killed off by some "MVRDERER" in season 3. So disappointed and I really hope that further episodes get the magic back, but I have the bad feeling that this series has gone past the event horizon.

Have to say, pretty impressed with this low budget fun movie. Elsa Pataky actually brings a lot of depth to this character which is surprising for this type of role. Rather than some emotionless action figure, she portrays a surprisingly strong willed action hero with a very troubled past. It's a pity it's a bit of a low budget as Matthew Reilly really does a lot with what he's got to work with. Action scenes are well played out though with some interesting "conclusions" lets say. Really hope Netflix takes a gamble and goes for a sequel, it deserves one!
