I love a quiet movie, with the music creating an atmosphere that doesn't require too much dialogue - but when there is dialogue, it needs to be good. I didn't find that with Past Lives. I didn't expect anything too amazing, these are just two people living their lives, after all, but the conversations were pretty dull - I've more interesting conversations with the guy behind the counter at my local shop!
The cinematography was lacking a little too - and that is what I really thought I'd be getting with this movie. It's a shame, because Seoul and New York are amazing places, but they didn't shine here.
I was bored halfway through and skipped to the end to see the ending that I really didn't care about.

If this had been made by the Andrew Davies and the BBC in the 90s, it would have been flawless, and worthy of the same title as the original story. I'm not sure at all why this was made and called Tom Jones. They may has well have called it any other name - it's not the story that was Tom Jones.
And because I have to get to the character count....

I'm half-way through episode two and am not sure I can go any further with this. It's just too soapy and like most American-made dramas, overly dramatic about things. I mean, they spend just way too much time talking about their six-year olds' days. It was boring. But I think the hardest thing were those police interviews that kept being inserted into the "drama". The dialogue was just so unreal. The friends being interrogated by the police about the murder were saying things they would never have known about the people they were talking about. It all just didn't gel well and there were too many holes, and just so boring.
