I did not expect the Saw franchise to become my favourite horror series but it has. In preparation for riding SAW - The Ride (a Gerstlauer Eurofighter model rollercoaster at Thorpe Park, UK featuring a 100° drop under rotating sawblades, with heavy Saw theming), I decided to go on a bing of all of the Saw films.
Starting at 1, where the film wastes zero time dropping you into the thick of it: two men trapped in a bathroom with a dead body and a time limit. The film grants you pieces of the plot like you're solving a jigsaw puzzle, as me begin to learn about the Jigsaw Killer, witnessing his various traps, all relatively simple for this first film, and you're trapped trying to figure out who is behind it all before time runs out.
Cap it off with a twist of peak Shyamalanian proportions and you may have one of the best horror films of our time. I would highly recommend it. Even if you're not a huge fan of gore, this one is pretty light on the gore for the most part due to its low budget. You'll get so hooked, you'll watch the sequels despite the gore, like me!
