Not the worst thing I've seen by Mr Ritchie (for that you need to watch either MobLand or The Gentleman, which are both appalling) and it's even a diversion from his usual 'Geezer' cliched stuff.
Instead, we have an Indiana Jones meets DaVinci Code mash up, full of improbable characters - all with tongues firmly planted in cheeks.
Loads of fights, chases, glamorous settings and alcohol consumption (so, typically Ritchie) but without the 'Mockney' accents.
A pretty average script, with some pretty tedious dialogue - and a storyline you don't need binoculars to see coming from a distance.
Ritchie is no Spielberg (in fact I'm not sure Ritchie is even Ritchie anymore) so we really end up with a 'Pound Shop' Temple of Doom.
Natalie Portman was probably wishing she'd just made another perfume advert instead.

Scrolling through Netflix, and you come across a film with both Sir Ian McKellen and Dame Helen Mirren.
Hmmm, you think, it must be half decent with those two as the main characters - it really isn't.
It's starts off okay, pretty standard fare; the longer it goes on, the sillier and less believable it becomes, and by the time the 'twist' comes, you just want it to end.
Cons which look like they'd cost more to set up than the proceeds gained from them (the success of which relied on way too many random reactions to a situation) and a murder which just couldn't happen at a tube station.
After the Berlin trip, it gets even dafter, and even less believable.
Decent acting, but ridiculous story.

Possibly the toughest series I've ever watched, on so many levels - not least the fact that it's based on a true story.
Really had little idea where it was going, and was expecting something quite light hearted, if I'm honest.
Light hearted, it isn't.
It's a great cast, and the acting is very good.
I found it very difficult to like any of the characters at all - and going back to the fact that it's predominantly true - I found myself questioning some of the decisions that were made by the main protagonist.
I also found myself wanting to watch some of the scenes (including the stand up routines) through my fingers.
Episode 4 is particularly tough.
All that said, it's totally engrossing, and brings some huge issues to the fore.
