Fine way of wrapping up the series. Interesting story line that ties up the loose ends, wonderful script and joyful ending. Character development consistently good, and the lad is a natural.
A reminder of England and Yorkshire as it used to be.
Watching it is like being in a warm bed under a thick duvet with a hot cup of tea.

Not read the book, so based on the drama alone. Very enjoyable yarn with an unusual plot. Generally well cast and well acted. McGregor is excellent and carries the Count's breeding, eruditeness and whimsy well. The supporting cast also work well. I love Johnny Harris's performance - his Osip is scary. I don't mind the varied accents (I don't want cod Russian accents). Unfortunately, I cannot get over the (African) elephant in the room. The black actors are good actors and their performances are good, and in any modern or unspecified setting i am happy with "colour blind" casting. But, even though the story is fiction, it is a historical drama and so has a "mise en place" - it must reflect the historical setting and have some realism (a black minister of culture in 1930's Soviet Union?).
A very strange drama.. I started watching the first episode and almost gave up as it made no sense, was full of plot holes, inconsistencies, impossibilities, non sequiturs etc. But then i persevered as it became car crash tv... i had to watch just to see how it would pan out.
I can see from the other reviews that it is marmite tv. People either love it or hate it. For those that love it there is an element of "emperors new clothes". There was some good acting, some poor overacting. Loved Sheen's cameo. The whole thing seemed to be a dramatic equivalent to Sheen's speech to the Welsh football team from a couple of years ago (check it on you tube).
Worth watching - you might like it. If you forget about the logic of the plot and appreciate the visuals it is interesting... the equivalent of eating magic mushrooms.
