  • Thank goodness for Will Sharpe and Megan Stalter

There are good moments because of Will Sharpe and Megan Stalter but I feel like the scripts needed another pass. Also Andrew Scott's cameo is not great - his accent eventually arrives at a Jamie Dornan type dialect. Good to see Rhea Perlman as Grandmother and Rita Wilson as the mum. I like that it's a bit different and weird and seemingly sort of biopic for Lena Dunham. Just feel like the script needed an editor who could say no or be ruthless and cut out flabby stuff. I don't mind the series. It's always good to see Will Sharpe in a production and his character gets more interesting as we meet his mother and sister. Anyhow, worth a try.

  • Marmite lead actor

I understand what the film was purporting to do. Whimsical, gentle, melancholic... however, the lead has to be bearable. I have to invest in his narrative and all I kept doing was waiting for the next tic or Tim ism. He certainly is a favourite with working title and they keep churning out the same witterings for this actor. It just was a bit empty if you took him out of the equation. There are good actors in the film but very little convincing words come out of their mouths. I realise I'm in a minority here. That's fine. I'm allowed to be disappointed that I spent £18 at the cinema. It has a cheesy ending and if you love the 'comedic' lead then you'll love the film. A plus for me was Carey Mulligan's dress.

  • Comedic genius of David Sands

Congratulations to David Sands, Louis Neethling, and all involved in the production of this comedy programme - MJP has done a fantastic job on a fraction of a mainstream programme budget. David Sands' comedic character, Chris Baker, is a fantastic creation. The actor conveys Chris Baker perfectly theough his physicality and dialogue - the dialect of Chris Baker's sign language has us laughing but it also has us pitying Chris too. How David Sands injects his comedy with pathos - just the right amount - so that he is never mocking Chris Baker - is a talent that very few deaf writers and performers have at present. I wish there were more episodes to watch. I would watch anything that David Sands and Louis Neethling produce together.
