This movie is very wild and pleasant to watch. The choice to shoot with film in this digital era made the movie even more romantic. Grainy textures, rough cuts during action scenes and the use of formal Indonesian language throws a nostalgic feel to this movie. A subtle nudge to toxic masculinity, which highlights Ajo Kawir's struggle to be a man for his wife, in a patriarchal society.
This movie is very heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I really love the way Lucky Kuswandi shape the character of Ali's mother. As an audience, we understand Ali's pain, yet we can also understand the dreams and guilt of Ali's mother, without being fed about her perspective. We can also see & feel the amount of research that's been done to create this movie. This movie shed a light on the concept of family. About how it shouldn't necessarily be about the ideal family of three; mother, father, and child. That it can also be about friendship, the relationship you have with people who nurtured you, and the people who made you feel most at home. Worth the watch!
