The Thursday Murder Club was disappointing. Slow and meandering, it felt more like Last of the Summer Wine without the humour. The characters never quite spark and the mystery drags rather than intrigues. I wanted charm and wit, but ended up trudging through a story that never really came alive. Lacked suspense and never hooked. Sorry.
There was a real sense of anticipation as I watched this episode-it builds nicely, with believable characters set in a competitive work environment that feels grounded and relatable. While it does lack a bit of subtlety in how the antagonist is introduced, and the plot moves at a rapid pace, there are still enough "ooh" moments to keep you engaged along the way.
Unfortunately, the final act completely unravels. The ending feels rushed, undercooked, and veers dangerously into something almost Benny Hill-esque-if that's even a thing! It was such a jarring tonal shift after the promising set-up.
That said, the acting throughout is solid, and the performances deserved a more thoughtful resolution. It's hard not to wonder if the whole thing was hurried out to meet a deadline, because the climax feels like it skipped a few drafts. A strong start, but ultimately a frustrating finish that left me disappointed.

This started as a lovely quirky comedy about a couple 'trying' to become parents. The first three series were generally filled with a good mix of belly laughs and an occasional tear. Light, fun, moving in equal parts. But the fourth series is almost unwatchable. Trying far too hard to be funny. Developing stories for characters that lack any warmth or connection to the viewer. For a series that was meant to be about the struggles of parenthood, there is not a great deal of struggling. It seems the best 6 years have been missed out of the parenting loop... and belly laughs have turned to embarrassing groans. What a shame... trying too hard!
