This may have been one of the very few music videos that has left me speechless. Thèrése is a beautiful song on its own but placed together with the shameless cinematography unveils the vulnerability in the sexualization of women. Being exposed in such a way in order to empower others and help gain that feeling of pride over our own skin is such a power move that the word courageous is not a strong enough word to describe everyone who has taken part in bringing this vision to life. It's a fearless message that will definitely bring empowerment and assurance to those who watch it. A powerful message that will hopefully one day be pushed further into the spotlight.
For being the film that has started the chain of stereotypical high school films we have today, "Heathers" is really in a category of its own. The charm and humor clashing with a dark undertone that takes its audience off guard upon first viewing. It provokes an unsettling interpretation of how from a high schooler's perspective, status in the moment may as well feel like its life or death. It masks its intrusive side through quirky one-liners coping from peer pressure and high expectations. With what occurs in the film and how dark the theme gets as the story progresses, I don't believe they could ever recreate this film. There hasn't been a film of this nature that has been able to replicate "Heathers", and probably never will.
