  • An extraordinary movie

The film begins in an empty swimming pool where a young man (Julius Nitschkoff) and a young woman (Lana Cooper) are playing hide and seek. Both are fooling around, then the viewer learns that the young woman, Toni, is the young man's mother named Bruno, who is only 15 years older. The close relationship between mother and son is already evident here.

The location of the film is the almost extinct island of Ibiza in the off-season. Bruno and Toni are Woking here as cleaners in a hotel. Later we learn that they have been living together on the holiday island for 12 years. It is clearly shown that both are highly dependent on each other. However, the roles have reversed, so that Bruno now takes on more and more responsibility for both of them.

This intensifies even more when Toni starts spending more and more time with Hannah (Karin Hanczewski) and neglecting her tasks and duties along the way. Bruno develops a strong jealousy here as Hannah seems to come between mother and son. Toni seems to be trying to catch up on some things she missed out on due to her very early pregnancy. All this against the background of a precarious working relationship, a strong dependence of the protagonists on each other and an ever-present loneliness of all involved.

Bulldog is a film that stays in the memory for a long time. The performance of the actors alone, especially Julius Nitschkoff, for whom this role was written perfectly, make this film absolutely worth seeing.
