Films can be done in many different ways, we've got so many genres, allowing all kind of artistic freedom. With this technology, all kinds of props laying around, resources, masterpiece films accompanied by critical analysis, tutorials on lighting, equipment, acting, editing, etc. Yet, this film was made, and it was made in a way that shows no thought, no skills, no preparation, dedication, ideas, also no interest in creation, only in attention. The creator was apparently inspired by the love for the horror films; I wonder which ones, and I realise it must be other amateur, no-budget school films. Please stop justifying it with the 0 budget, people create from scratch all the time, I've seen more thought-through films made during 4h workshops in some small city of an economically challenged country. There are entire award-winning TV series shot with DSLR cameras... One doesn't need any budget to shoot In Focus, content creators do it every day, yet not those people. All I see in this "film" is privilege, waste, and laziness. This could have been a campy, satirical mix of genres and mediums, experimental, and full of creative mistakes. It's not, and there is no learning process here.
I'm not sure who this movie is for. The premise is kind of Noir film + Big Lebowski, and the main character is surely peculiar, as are his friends, but unlike the cult classic, nothing they say feels funny nor special; it's like being stuck in a room with strangers who are not very bright, who have smoked something, and are trying to make a conversation. It's tiring. It doesn't help that everything feels very slow and sleepy, and the plot is so obvious that even a child would figure it out, while eyes rolling. Maybe that was the point, to play with Noir genre expectations. But every film, regardless of genre, should have some element of surprise, meaning, and depth; otherwise, what's the point of making the film and what's the point of watching? I can't see those here. Maybe it's about boredom.
