Ugh, what a headache inducing snooze fest. The kids seem feral, bratty, and older than their years. The eldest daughter, who is only 10, was wearing makeup and completely not listening to her parents, and seems to be a parentified child- parents asking her for haircut tips ....Their lives are so chaotic, just a big unfunny, not charming mess. Painful to watch. Oh speaking of pain, the fake Spanish wife's boob job...looks like it hurts. Also I think someone should call animal protection , too many unruly kids around small dogs is asking for trouble in the form of an injured pup. I actually feel bad for the animals. There entire thing is so unattractive to me. A big bored no thanks from me.
This film is just ok but it will not make you wish for your time back, which a lot of offers on streaming will make you do ! The story is very predictable but passable. At least it is set in not too far fetched reality vs some sci fi future. I found the acting good all around except for the acting of the two "harpy" type country club women, too over the top obnoxious. I haven't seen the female lead since she was in the HBO series "Big Love", so that was a nice surprise. I didn't care for the lighting or coloring throughout, maybe it lent to the "sinister" ambiance, but it was just too muddy. . If its a rainy cold day, and you have nothing else to watch, not a complete waste of your time.
This is Hollywood's 3rd attempt at telling the big pharma/opioid crisis story. Each telling gets progressively worse. The first, Dopesick , was really good and took the time to tell a well rounded, well done story. Next was Painkiller, which is ok, but no Dopesick. And the third, and probably final, being this turkey.
Emily Blunt is always good, but her costumes were terrible-so 1980s, just not on point or decade . Catherine O'Hara is miscast as the trashy mom, she just doesn't work- this isn't supposed to be a comedy. The other characters were over accented, poorly costumed and really just cartoons. At some points this did seem to be a comedy. The last 1/4 of this film is so rushed.
It just didn't work and was a waste of time. I wonder what went wrong.
