This show comes out of the gate strong and it finishes strong too but somewhere in the middle you find yourself having to power through it. I'm noticing a trend of these single season shows where it's obvious they're ordering at least 8-10 episodes of a show but the writing only fits or more accurately would benefit from a show being shortened by at the very least 2 episodes. Here it shows up in the middle few episodes where it's clear we have an understanding of the title characters short comings, need for therapy, and self sabotaging behaviors, but since we have to drag this out 8 episodes they beat the dead horse. It just comes off as we have to stretch this out so get more episodes of our character spiraling instead of continuing the story organically.
How did this show get to 4 seasons? I'm completely convinced that anyone can be a writer for a Netflix show if this counts as writing. The only saving grace is the performances are actually good, they just aren't given good material to work with. One dimensional characters, 20 eye roll moments an episode, stupidity that goes way beyond suspension of disbelief and repetitive 0 stake behavior is the hallmark of this show. We get it, men are stupid and toxic and keeping woman from reaching their goals. Fine!! That's completely ok and not at all a brand new premise in TV but you can't establish that and the go on to make your female leads all act as stupid as their male counterparts and completely useless without them or allow them to handicap every decision they make. Allow your characters to learn and grow from at least one experience in 50 episodes please.
This was one of the worst shows I've ever seen. The amount of.disbelief you have to suspend to enjoy this series is so large that it takes you out of the show entirely. Even if you aren't looking for your experience to be realistic I think we can all acknowledge that since a story takes place in the real world then there are some forms of reality we expect from the characters portrayed, but these characters act so far outside the scope of normal human actions that you might as well be watching aliens. There aren't any actions that feel organic they all feel forced in order to move people into their desired positions in whatever lackluster direction the sophomoric writing dictates.
