Has the style and budget of a solid spy thriller, but none of the substance. The plot is messy and slow, the characters are boring and flat, and the action is literally nonexistent. It tries to be clever and serious but ends up dull and forgettable, and that comes from a Fassbender fan. Not the worst way to kill two hours thanks to eye-candy Regé-Jean Page, but you won't remember it the next day. Blanchett's dark, fake looking wig is absolutely diabolical but her lush fashion style is the highlight for her character. Unfortunately for anyone looking for a fresh new spy thriller from Soderbergh or a gripping narrative will be highly disappointed, you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Black Bag plays it far too safe. Wouldn't recommend.
This documentary annoyingly glorifies this common criminal far too much. Especially from his sister and his college friends. He supposedly wasn't into consumerism, yet he produced meth for consumers to get buckets of cash for himself while living in a tree house like some naked drum wielding, granola eating hippie? What was the purpose of the cash then? He didn't help anybody he didn't know. Just spent it as freely as anyone would. Sure he found out how to rob banks like every poor desperate person dreams of. But he's still just a criminal loser at the end of the day, being praised far too much.
