Try as they might, the great majority of situations and outcomes are totally predictable. That's okay because the characters are just a backdrop for the real story on the screen which is Tuscany. Beautiful, charming, engaging Tuscany. The "view" is ever present whether it's a far off landscape or an up close piece of pottery or a "sun kissed tomato" covered pasta noodle. Anyone who has ever been to Tuscany has witnessed these scenes numerous times before, during and after their visit from the cobbled streets and quaint piazzas or the distant mountains, hills, vineyards and ever present olive groves.
The actors portrayal of a story was just the normal human experience being acted out on the Tuscan canvas and didn't really matter because we all knew how it was going to play out for them. We all constantly change and evolve in vocations, relationships, tragedies and traditions but Italy never changes. Oh, Rome perhaps or Venice or Milan but not Italy, not Tuscany or Umbria or even Bologna. There are just some things that cannot change because we won't let them. We have our dreams and for most, those dreams reside in Italy. They are made in Italy!

The first three seasons are a solid 3 star show with the story starting to wear thin by the end of the season but with hopes they would get it back on track for season four. Instead, the producers (could have been the actress) decided that there needed to be a change in Jonathan Creek's partner and the show was just never as good as the first two seasons in particular. Then after quite a gap, there were some "special" episodes that were actually very good even if a bit more gruesome in their portrayal of the murders and mayhem.
In the third special episode, we are introduced to Johnathan's new wife which was quite a turn. Then comes the final season with two very weak episodes as the wife is wanting a different life for our intrepid problem solver as she keeps telling him to "grow up" and be more mature. Thankfully he can't help himself and keeps finding reasons to continue his sleuthing and problem solving and by the final episode even Polly, the new wife is intrigued and gets involved with his escapades. But alas, now it's over and we are left wanting.
