After enjoying Southland back in the day I figured we would throw this on at work. I couldn't have been more wrong. This show contains every cliche for a cop show and doesn't do anything to really distinguish itself from any of the other scores of cop dramas out there.
The acting and writing is paper thin; again cliche after cliche. We found ourselves trying to play bingo with it. "I've just been shot where are we", "rookie cop dispbeys orders to try and make an arrest", "the old school sergeant who doesn't follow the rules", "the FTO with a troubled past". On and on.
Everything plays out in a predictable manner. The situations are overblown caricatures of real life issues, so much that the average person who refuses to step foot in a city because "it's on the news for all those bad things" will be able to identify what's going on, and to the rest of us it's patronizing. We all laughed so hard at the narcan scene while rolling our eyes. I can't wait for my relatives to tell me that they understand what real life is like after watching this show.
This show is for people who think they're cops, and for people who wear Mickey Mouse thin blue line shirts on their family vacation. Pass if you have any self respect.

I love B movies. I love C movies. I love movies that are good. This movie, however, is the cinematic equivalent of "that kid" that got called on to read in English class that everyone hates.
I actually couldn't make it through the entire movie. The pacing is awful. An hour in and the only thing the we have established is that the main character had an awful day and got a job at a strip club where three other girls just randomly murder patrons and coworkers. That's it. It took an hour to get all of that information out.
Not only does the pacing fall flat, but the acting and cinematography is all terrible. Somehow we've sunk below modern porn standards; nothing in this movie is engaging. Nothing in this movie is interesting. Noting in this movie even looks good.
Go find a movie that doesn't take itself so seriously.

I really enjoy bad movies. Watching 80s B movies is a favorite pastime of mine. This film came across my radar on some unrelated 80s movies, and I decided to give it a go.
As far as B/indie movies goes it's really good. If this was released in 1989 this would have underground cult classic status. The movie doesn't take itself too seriously, and for what it is the acting is not half bad. The cinematography of the movie is also spot on, for the most part. The style and theme of the movie somewhat breaks down in the third act, and it feels like the movie didn't really know how to end itself.
But looking at it from the perspective of B/Indie movie cheap thrills and laughs the movie has you covered. Essentially a cast of characters sourced from a goth club partake in sex, drugs, rock and roll, and a gracious topping of over the top violence.
Great way to spend an afternoon.
