No idea what all these reviews are on about. Probably self PR and bots. Movie was terrible. Cliched tropes (really the drunk fat old white guy at the bar????), stupid leaps in logic and influencers who makes friends right away?! Obviously the writer hasn't met influencers lol. Characters are all one dimensional and poorly written. They make silly decisions - probably a newbie writer trying out stuff he learned from screenplay school. Corny acting and lines. Poorly directed - scenes are all over the place and not enough suspense is built up. Looks like they had to go back and fill in the blanks. Only saving grace was some nice tourism shots of Thailand though the concept of time and travel doesn't make sense. Would have been better with more Thai actors or faces. Like this is just a bunch of generic white people getting into trouble. Attempts at nuance are cheesy. Stay away. This is the movie you watch on TLC or whatever when you're hungover cos you can't change the channel. Painful watch.
Singapore films are just so weak these days. A long history of hyper local content controlled by a few legacy companies protecting their spots has not allowed the country and its productions to grow and evolve. This is just another Mediacorp/Mediacrap show but with some nudity cos the director Sam thinks he's some sort of auteur. He credits himself as a director AND writer. Ouch! Talk about delusions of grandeur. The dialogue is bad, acting is horrific, plot is all over the place (Actually what plot?!) and the production resembles 1980s Hong Kong shows but not in a good way - more TVB than Wong Kar Wai. Easy pass unless you want to see some terrible softcore stuff. Check everything wrong with cinema these days - creepy male gaze, misogynistic tropes, terrible production value etc. MM2 actually thought they did something! Oof!
