I watched this movie with my Dad and a friends of our family. To my surprise I found myself laughing out loud multiple times. This is one of those movies were it is unintentionally funny. For instance, there is one scene were a guy is peeing and then a machine flies over him taking his pee with it. I found the scene funny because it has nothing to do with the rest of the movie.
The Positives of this movie: 1. The Cel-Animation is very well done with regard to the backgrounds and certain characters. I will admit certain characters have considerably less detail than others.
2. The Movie made me laugh out loud multiple times
3. The story has a good overall message
The Drawback of this movie: 1. The story is all over the place. In other words, it starts with a certain main character then it completely disregards the main character for half an hour to focus on a different character.
2. The movie has a pacing issue where I felt multiple scenes were either too long or too short. One example that comes to mind is the ending to this movie. It felt very rushed, I wished it was a couple minutes longer.
3. This movie is not for little kids. I enjoyed the movie but I found myself surprised that this is for little kids. There is smoking, drinking, nudity(granted it is just a picture in the background of one scene), a guy peeing, and self harm.

Overall, I found this movie to be an enjoyable watch. The animation is not as good as his future projects but, that is to be expected. This is Adam Elliot's first stop motion short film. Regardless, it was fun to see how much hard work was put into this film. Stop Motion is my favorite type of animation because it is so unique. Every year there are only a couple stop motion movies released. Which makes each one an event. Even the short films I find very compelling to watch. If I had to critique this movie it would be it is to much exposition. I would have liked to hear the Uncle talking throughout the short film. Rather, than in one scene. Also, I wish that the Uncle's wife said something. When she dies I feel no sense of loss because I only saw the character, the never heard her voice, and never got to fully understand who she was. I would recommend this film to stop motion fans and Adam Elliot fans.
When I first started watching this movie I expected it to be terrible. Mostly because it is a two-hour movie adapting a book that is over 1000 pages long. Surprisingly, this movie reminds me in many ways of the Harry Potter movies. Of course, not the actual story but, how the source material is treated. This movie made many changes to the source material but, it never disrespected the source material. It seemed to only make changes that benefitted the script, such as having the two main characters be friends. Something not shown in the book. Additionally, having a five-hour movie would most likely not perform well at the box office. This movie has a perfect cast with Jim Caviezel, Guy Pierce, and Richar Harris all giving Oscar-worthy performances. The pacing and editing are superbly well done. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable film.
