First, I have to compliment the amazing acting performance of both Lou Goossens (Elias) & Marius Desaeger (Alexander). They definitely had the possibility to break my heart while watching. Thankfully, they spared me. Tears did fall though.
Another aspect that I appreciated was the film's length. It struck the perfect balance - not too long to drag, yet long enough to allow for rich character development and a satisfying conclusion. The pacing felt natural, with every scene contributing something meaningful to the overall (love-)story.
The beautifully crafted cinematography definitely added a great bit to this 10/10 film. I am writing this just after watching it for the first time, but it for sure won't be the last time I will have watched this Anthony Schatteman masterpiece.
Young Hearts now has a very special place in my heart.

When it was finally over I had to ask myself, did I just have a fever dream or did I really watch a movie?
"12 Monkeys" left me utterly disappointed, failing to live up to the hype surrounding it. The convoluted plot seemed like a tangled web of confusion rather than a coherent narrative. The film's reliance on time travel as a central theme only added to the chaos, leaving me with a sense of bewilderment rather than awe.
The characters lacked depth, making it challenging to connect with any of them on an emotional level. Bruce Willis, despite his acting prowess, couldn't salvage the poorly developed protagonist, leaving his performance feeling lackluster and uninspired. The attempt to blend dystopian elements with time travel resulted in a muddled and disjointed storyline that left more questions than answers.
Moreover, the pacing of the movie was erratic, making it difficult to follow the sequence of events. The constant jumps between timelines were disorienting and hindered the overall viewing experience. The film's attempts at suspense often fell flat, as the audience was too preoccupied trying to make sense of the plot twists.
In conclusion, "12 Monkeys" was a convoluted mess that struggled to establish a coherent narrative. Despite a talented cast and occasional visual appeal, the film's confusing plot, underdeveloped characters, and disjointed pacing left me with a profound sense of disappointment. It's a regrettable attempt at blending sci-fi and dystopian themes, ultimately falling short of the expectations set by its ambitious premise.
