Lee Van Cleef and Lo Lieh in The Stranger and the Gunfighter (1974)

  • Pleasant surprise

I might have to place this in the top 10 of my spaghetti westerns. Maybe somewhere around 6-8. Lee Van Cleef looks like he was having a really good time filming it. I had never heard of Lieh Lo before, but it sounds like he was Bruce Lee before Bruce Lee. One of the first kung fu movie stars. Did a fine job and seem to have good handle on English as he was born in the philippines.

Good action, pretty good writing. Interesting plot with interesting characters. A little skin teasing in there didn't hurt. I like the other comment of "an arse full of dollars". If you watch the movie you'll see what that means.

I would watch this one again without batting an eye which is more than I can say for a lot of them. It was refreshing to see Van Cleef not only as a good guy but as the star.

I thought I recognized the fight promoter in the movie and sure enough it was Gene Collins. I recognized him from Kelly's heroes.

  • Best Western since Unforgiven

Tim Blake Nelson is incredible! I have a whole new respect for his work. One of the best acting jobs I've ever seen. Scott Haze is also very good. The rest are so so. The writing and music are also well done. I was really blown away. Nelson steals the show.

  • One of my favorites

The Admiral and Seven Samurai are my favorite foreign language films of all time. I'm also a sucker for a true story. The true life ordeal has to go down in history as one of the best. Wow. I had to watch it again and again. (to the big end)!

  • Wow

I ran into this flick by accident one night. At first I was put off by the foreign language. Something about the characters drew me in and wouldn't let me turn the channel. Looking it up I found it was rated as one of the best foreign language films of all time. I believe it. It's story laid the foundation of many films with the Magnificent Seven story plot. I have to place it up with my other favorite foreign film "The Admiral". There are some corny scenes for the drunk samurai but all in all, definitely a classic.

  • One of my favorites

I won't put this in my top 10 but I think it's definitely in my top 20. This flick is just plain FUN. A good old fashioned 'who done it' with some humor and lots of plot twists. If you think you got it figured out...... oops. No you don't. I've watched it four times and loved it every time. I can't say that about very many movies. I'ld watch it again in a heartbeat.

  • Not a 2.5

I've seen a lot of really bad movies. Superdome isn't good buy anymeans, but it's not a 2.5. I;m giving it a 5 to boost it. It's actually about a 4. It's starts out slow and you really don't know what's going on, but it comes around. David Janssen and Donna Mills make it interesting in the second half. Try watching Little Rita or Buffalo Bill, Hero Of The West and then tell me this a 2.5.

  • How is this getting a 6.7 rating???

Second worst movie I have ever seen. Had to stop 4 times. NO military advisor which is evident. Colonel wears a Majors insignia throughout movie. "HooRaa" was NEVER said in WWII. Grenade blows bunker, kills all inside but no damage to the room. Looks to have about 5 Sargents in a 12 man company??? Only "sergeants" aparently get stripes. Patches are improperly placed and half falling off. BAR not shooting 30-06. "Colonel"s 1911 and a B AR has plugged barrels. Some times guns eject casings, other times nothing.>?? One more "HooRaah" and I was going to turn it off. ....and ... there it was. In between bunkers the "Colonel" is screaming orders to everyone. He would give orders to the multitude of Sargents and THEY would pass on the orders. Then they go and send a couple Sgtss off as a team. No, no, NO! Sgts. LEAD the lower ranks. Oh, they only have one Pvt. and one Cprl. I believe. Watch this movie only if you have absolutely NO idea what the military is. Otherwise, it will drive you nuts. Ugh!!

  • Nostalgic, but WHY the language??

I enjoyed the show, honestly, but cringed everytime they resorted to swearing. If you want to honor the original, then DO IT. The original never resorted to swearing (the sensors never would have allowed it.) Glad to see some of the originals. Wish Goldie and Twiggy had been there. Also glad to see Ruth Buzzi still alive. It just would have been more enjoyable without the swearing.

  • The worst movie I have ever seen

I have seen a lot of movies and this is by FAR the worst I ever seen. My wife and I couldn't stop watching it out of disbelief. I must admit we laughed a lot because it was so bad. If your looking for nudity, there is plenty but I've seen a lot better. The computer geeks are portrayed by having guys wear Star Trek uniforms. As far as I could tell, the "star" Kira Reed doesn't even play a character, just a body double in a fantasy scene.

Once in a while I like to look for the worst looking title I can find because bad movies make you appreciate everything else in life more. If you ever feel like watching a grade C movie, this is a must see. Also try and find "Hillbillies In A Haunted House".

  • A Lasting Tribute to Those Who Served

A friend of mine who fought 3 tours in Vietnam says, "A war movie critiqued by civilians is like a porno movie critiqued by a nun". Let's look at the critiques by the guys who actually fought the battle. Quoting from the History Channel's 'History vs. Hollywood': Maj. Bruce "Snakeshit" Crandall says "'We Were Soldiers' is the best movie I've seen of this era", Capt. Tony Nadal, "essentially, everything depicted in the movie happened in some form", Pvt. Bill Beck says "Sam Elliot had Master Sgt. Plumley down to a tee", Col. Hal Moore says "The movie...fully captures the emotion, the tone, the content, and the intensity of that battle." The vote of the panel of guys who actually fought the battle was 80% History,20% Hollywood.

Who are we to say they're wrong? Some things may sound cliche' but that's what was said. Most of the lines in the movie are not made up, they are QUOTES! Read the book! Discuss the movie with a Nam-Vet, and while you're at it, thank him. Don't watch this movie for entertainment value. Watch it for a piece of understanding as to what our guys went through.

As for our 'foreign delegation', if you don't like America, you darn sure won't like this movie. Please DON'T see it. You wouldn't have a clue.
