No one that can reach that level in a business would be as much as a mess up that Seth's character was in this film. Episode 1 had a lot more realism with some over top situations but this was a bumbling fool that somehow is running a major studio?
They needed to dial it down and just be a little beyond what's realistic so it's comedy but not distracting. This felt like watching the 3 stooges slap stick comedy.

This was a surprisingly good movie and a great start for the new DC world. I haven't really liked DC movies since The Dark Knight Returns with maybe 2 movies since then that I really liked. You can now add this movie to that list.
My only big complain was the opening act -- maybe first 20-30min as they set up the danger & obstacles Superman will face. It was unrealistic and too fast moving. However, after that it was an 8.5/10 for me.
One other criticism was the comedy in the film was a mix bagged. For every 2 good jokes there was joke or comedic scene that just felt it went too goofy. The squirrel?? Come on, that was too silly.
The highlight of the film is the portrayal of Lois Lane and her relationship to Superman. That was perhaps the most realistic portrayal of a relationship I've seen in any superhero movie. Rachel Brosnahan was just the perfect actress for this role -- she was able to blend compassion, hard edge, toughness, and vulnerability in her character at different times in the movie. Well written character and she knocked it out of the ball park.
David Corenswet did very well for this take on Superman that appears to be more like the original Superman with his 'overly nice' and awkward version. Clark Kent being basically the opposite of Lois Lane on some issues made for some good scenes. He's overly optimistic & naive and she's more pragmatic and real about the situations they discuss. I always thought their relationships in other similar takes of this never made sense but writing & performances really sold how they can be polar opposites but deeply care for each other.
Nicholas Hoult was solid as Lex. Nothing special in the writing of the character but the performance was very good. The movie starts with Lex already hating Superman so sometimes it felt his hatred for Superman was a bit extreme even though they gave a somewhat decent explanation for this hatred. IMO, this character of Lex needs an origin story because I would love to see a 2hr movie that would show how Lex got to hate Superman with a passion.
The justifications for why Lex hated Superman made sense but the character just wasn't given the time to fully flesh out that justification for the hatred.
The Justice Gang was hilarious but at the same time for the first Superman movie, I kind of think they shouldn't have been in the movie or had a smaller role...then bringing them in heavily in the sequel.

It's a silly action comedy but it's very entertaining. The action scenes are fun and the comedic parts are hilarious. This is really good for a streaming movie.
While the plot is a bit silly and doesnt' make sense at times, it's not mean to be plot heavy at all. The purpose of this film is to entertain you with comedy & action and it delivered. Well cast movie with the 3 stars each playing very different type of characters.
John Cena is supposedly in the film but I never saw him. But the clothes walking around like Cena had some great comedic timing.
Idris Elba was great in the action scenes (he should have been Bond) and offered some good comedic moments as the straight character to Cena's goofball character.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas was really good as a tough but dorky pun making baddie. I am not very familiar with her work but she impressed me a lot here.
A lot of the comedy comes down to the situation and editing so the director and or editor did a great job setting up some of those jokes. Perhaps the best was how they quickly summed up what a character did to get to that scene. Once you watch it, you will know exactly what I'm referring to.
