I have written about Bell myself but do not consider myself an expert. I am a big fan of Herzog, but I do not see the point of this effort. The documentary Letters from Baghdad gives a far more accurate account of Bell's life and influence. Janet Wallach's biography is a must read for anyone interested in Bell.
She was far more knowledgeable than Lawrence and described him as a "little imp" for his efforts to undermine her.
David Calder is an excellent actor but is nothing like Bell's father.
The film is quite long but so many important things about Bell are ignored.
This is no Fitzcarraldo.

Joan's deceased husband Barry was an aerial photographer. It is an odd twist that Louis Hayward, who plays Jim Cameron who hopes to become Barry's replacement, was a United States Marine combat photographer, and his work during the invasion of the Japanese-held island of Tarawa earned him a Bronze Star for courage under fire. It seems odd today to see someone offering a woman a cigarette and, when she says no, lighting up anyway without asking if she minds. Hayward smoked 80 a day and died of lung cancer at the age of 75.
Jane Russell looks lovely in this although there is something odd about her mouth when she speaks. I fell in love with her when I was taken to see Son of Paleface when I was six years old.

Just watched Man Bait from 1952. This was from Hammer studios before Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. It was directed by Terence Fisher who directed various Hammer horrors. The screenplay is by Frederick Knott who wrote Dial M for Murder. Based on a story by James Hadley Chase.
Diana Dors (Diana Fluck from Swindon) is "introduced" but it was her 16th film.
Interesting to see that the music is by Frank Spencer. Some mothers.
A viewing of Raymond Huntley before he had a moustache.
Eleanor Summerfield as a young woman.
I had thought of George Brent as a fairly boring American but he was an Irishman. He was born in Galway but moved to New York and spent some time in South Africa looking for gold. He returned to Ireland to study at the University of Dublin. By 1921, he had become a despatch courier for Michael Collins. He was hunted by the Black and Tans with a bounty on his head. He had a tumultuous affair with Bette Davis.
