Despite its short form, this film manages to encompass one of life's bitter and seemingly endless cycles: the beauty of a young love that's forbidden, the ever-present poison of a religion that forbids it and the intergenerational manifestation of this repression through physical violence.
This cycle completes itself with the resort to self-defence and learning to cope with an imperfect life. It's a story that's been familiar for too many of us through the ages.
The actors portrayed their roles with an honest intensity without resort to cliché. Yet somehow, despite the film depicting this bleak reality, the strength of the piece shone through to make it a thing of beauty.
