Being a WWE and AEW wrestling fan I went into this film excited. Unfortunately though there isn't much offered here. (Dark Match) boasts a solid cast featuring pro wrestler Chris Jericho and Steven Ogg best known for his role as Trevor in GTA V. They do what they can with the script, It's just lacking any substance at all, with poorly written cheesy dialouge. The atmosphere and pacing were ok and it could've been a lot more, but it ultimately just falls flat on everything it tries to accomplish. It's nothing but Generic kills, a silly plot (in a bad way) and one of the dumbest endings I've ever seen.
If I didn't know this was an early 90's slasher I would've thought it was made early 80's. The slapstick humor falls short for me here, and the kills are subpar mostly. One saving grace it has is an interesting backstory, and a strong acting cast. Holly Combs is the lead, and is fantastic in this film. I found myself pausing this one a few times to see how much runtime is left. I respect the self aware humor, but it's to much on the nose in this one. If you're looking for a Horror/Comedy slasher In the 80's style there are a lot of better options available. If you decide to give this a watch make sure you have snacks, or caffine on hand to stay awake.
The pacing in this film is atrocious. It tries to add way to much backstory for a run of the mill slasher. Intruder does however make up for it with it's self aware humor, and some great kills/gore. If it wasn't for the pacing it would score around an 8. The acting is as expected for an 80's slasher, (subpar) but it adds to the comedic elements they were going for. I also really enjoyed the ending. If I had the option I'd still go for about a dozen other 80's slashers such as the great "Maniac" or "Hellraiser". If you have nothing else to do on a Friday or Saturday night though, you could definitely do a lot worse.
