  • A dark, depressing and captivating story held back by being a slow film.

Atonement is about "a young and foolish girl who sees something from her bedroom window, which she doesn't understand, but she thinks she does." It's a drama romance movie set in the 1930's during the Second World War. While the film does a great job connecting the audience and the characters, I felt a genuine connection to the characters on screen, the film is very much a slow burner. I was only around half an hour into this film when I started thinking "This is really slow, I hope it gets interesting soon." I ended up eating my words, however, as the ending of the film is terribly sad and made it all worth sitting through. If you like slow burners, or you feel patient enough to sit through a lot of talking, this movie is well worth a watch, it has a good but very dark and sad story, and a depressing ending.

  • Charlie Day's directoral debut, I enjoyed it.

I've been excited for this film ever since it was announced. I love It's Always Sunny, and Charlie Kelly is my favourite character, and watching the podcast, I love Charlie Day as a person aswell. So when I heard about a movie where Charlie Day writes, directs and plays the main character, who seems to be very inspired by Mr Bean, I was very excited. I thought the trailer was funny, and I was devastated when it wasn't in UK theaters. While I thought the majority of the movie was very funny, there are a few jokes that don't land, and the plot doesn't make alot of sense. Despite that, it doesn't stop it from being entertaining, amusing and a generally fun movie.

  • Cheesy, Saw inspired film revolving around a strange murder mystery board game.

This movie will be difficult to review without spoilers, but I'll try my best. So first off, this film is give or take. If you expect a brilliant drama/horror film with clever lines, tense scenes that make you root for characters and acting that blows you away... this isn't the film you're looking for. If you expect a cheesy, poorly acted film that's gruesome and gory, heavily inspired by the likes of Saw and Would You Rather, this film is exactly what you are looking for. Like I mentioned, the acting isn't good. One person literally walks off a severe injury. This film is quite gruesome, not as bad as a Saw sequel, but it has it's moments. Like I sort of mentioned, the bory horror here makes no sense, and people react alot less realistically to injuries as they should. The "traps" and the deaths mostly also don't make sense. The motives also don't seem to be there? It doesn't really make sense why most of the movie is happening. I can say that the movie is sort of entertaining, and the special effects are good. It also tries to be clever at times, but just ends up flopping on it's face and creating lines that make you roll your eyes. This film doesn't need to be clever, and it shouldn't have tried to be. Bit of a flop, but it was alright.
