The Sinner (2017)
Disturbing...both seasons
There's something about this series that gives people and events a very creepy flavor indeed, without it being a horror genre. So, pretty well done, although I'm not a fan of Bill Pullman and I find him rather annoying in this one at times, however, that's a minor thing, as he does a pretty good job nevertheless.
Thought provoking on many different levels, and not in a happy way, it will stick in your head, and probably make for a good debate with other watchers. Worth watching, you'll binge on it!
Tabula Rasa (2017)
Wow...ooh, what?!? WOW!
This is a review from someone who does not like to watch series. Well, a shout out to all non-watchers of series out there: absolutely WATCH this one. It's slow paced because it reels you into the daily life of this family, and its details matter, so it's not supposed to be a fast action thing, that's the whole point. However, I didn't find it slow at all, as there's always something happening that makes sense and adds to the story, making it all the more intricate. But do not pay attention to reviews calling it "boring", because you won't be able to go to bed until you've watched the whole thing. Clever, mysterious, emotionally involving, heart-wrenching, it will make you feel for all the characters. The mood is fantastically creepy, and the story will ultimately make your jaw drop. Absolutely brilliant.
Hello (2005)
Enjoyable little gem
Gentle, understated and thought-provoking little treasure. A little look at fear, humanity and the need for connection in a disconnected world. In just 20 minutes we get to care more about these characters than we get to do in some 2-hr long movies. Eric Stoltz is always lovely to watch no matter what he does, and he's perfect in this, as the shy, innocent, trusting soul tentatively trying to make a connection. Susanna Thompson does a good job as the troubled, icy, controlling, fearful and slightly neurotic counterpart. Kevin Tighe's "villain" side adds a little extra tension to the picture. Both the soundtrack and the ferry and its sounds add a little mysterious quality to this little story and almost give it the feeling it's all happening in a separate little world. Well worth the watch.
