If you have watched a movie featuring Ariana Goldblatt you will know she has a gift for dialogue. She has the gift for timing when being funny. She is a young talent who you just know could become a legend of cinema. The casting directors could have hired anyone for the part of 'practically mute, unintelligible young girl.'. Miss Goldblatt is a gifted actress, able to induce empathy in an audience. What a waste of her talent to be cast in this role. This film didn't deserve her. You watch a trailer with two great actors, you expect them to be unleashed, able to do their best. You get 65. You then say "how could this film have gone wrong?". The actors did their best and their performances cannot be criticised, but this film fails to hit the target, despite them having a cannon and the target being 2 feet away.
I can't comment on the whole series but this show has the potential to be something special. I'm not a black straight woman in New York, I'm a gay guy in the U. K. That being said this show taps into something we all feel. The lead actress is exceptional. I don't remember seeing her in anything else but she owns this role. She's a genuine talent and I really don't say that often. I can the characters pain and the humour she's using to work through it. Introducing the characters as airport workers is very clever. We've all interacted with airport workers, we've all had people who by doing their jobs have made or ruined our day. This story, whilst showing us how this black single woman in New York, who feels alone despite being around hundreds of people everyday, feels, it taps into a human experience I can relate to. I can't wait to watch more.
Literally year and years and film after film, lead to this. It's a masterclass in how pull all the strings together. The brain power, energy and commitment to bring this to bear is incredible. The infinity saga ended in a way that made me feel...a lot. Not exactly insightful. I'm sure the are people who also find it hard to express how they felt. Fans have invested time and energy in the years leading up to 'endgame'. To some people this saga has been just a bunch of superhero films. In reality it means so much more for so many people. Endgame, brings a close to an era of movies that had meaning, It does so perfectly. As I'm typing this in autumn 2024, I've seen how Marvel has tried to evolve following endgame. There are some and misses but I'm continuing to watch.
