If there's one thing horror movies fail at is conveying the debilitating atmosphere of dread and weakness that we feel in the presence of the paranormal. "Nosferatu" passes to perfection the crippling horror, sense of doom and despair that I imagine are felt in the presence of such undiluted evil, strengthened by centuries of corruption made palpable, that you can see, feel and almost smell. The surrounding darkness, death and damnation that death itself won't release the victim from, with the immortal soul held in perpetual bondage. Truly horrifying. It is the death of Hope and Joy, of all Life and Light and all that is Pure and Good. You won't find a pretty boy vampire smooching over you but something morbidly fascinating and repulsive due to the vampires' legendary powers of spiritual entrapment. Where he goes Death follows, and perdition. A one-way ticket to one of Hell's darkest pits.
Only three things: 1) I applaud Mr Engels respect for the correct classical English though sometimes it's a bit OTT. A slight adjustment here amd there would have made it perfect; 2) though women were still pretty much the property of men at the time this movie exaggerates the mysoginy a bit maybe due to current feminist men-hating hate trends; 3) Willem Defoe's character is good but a little cliché'd at times, not at the level of Anthony Hopkins' flawless performance of Van Helsing in a previous "Dracula".
Other than that, it's a solid 9 from me due to its ability to have us relive and "breathe" the noxious fumes of horror to perfection. May it never knock at my door, get thee behind me Satan.

Bad documentary born not out of her concern for the gorillas and respect for the great Diane Fossey's life work and legacy, but from a desperate, calculating attempt to redeem her failing career after having been exposed as a tyrannical, moody, toxic, abusive, rude boss who caused many people to be fired or go through emotional distress with her mean antics. Honestly I never watched her own show because it's not my type of entertainment but I was curious about this piece as it revolves around a subject that is dear to me, preservation and restoration of the Environment, protection and assistance for threatened species and animals in dangerous conditions and a love of Nature in general. I was sorely disappointed. Goodbye Ellen, you and your self-entitled stunts won't be missed.
