Director Hirokazu Koreeda's 2008 film "Still Walking" (Aruitemo Aruitemo) offers a simple yet touching cinematic experience. The story and setting are very grounded, and extremely realistic. Still Walking is a film that perfectly encapsulates the idea of reconciliation of a family. The film has the quality to appeal to basically everyone across the globe. It goes with saying, everyone will find themselves relating to a character or a character's situations, be it Ryota and his relationship with his father, or Ryota's father struggling to cope with his elder son's demise. I would Still Walking a 8 on 10!
The story of the film revolves around the death of the protagonist's (soeda mitsuru) daughter after a shoplifting.
The performances are perfect, and brilliantly portray the emotion of the charecters.
Though intense,it's a film grounded in reality.
The lack of music in the film adds to elevate the intense atmosphere of the film, and helps to draw the viewer in. The charecters feel deeply human and undergo satisfactory development through the film's run.
To sum it up, "intolerence" ,or "kûhaku", is a perfect drama , and an amazing film. Absolutely worthy of a 10/10 and definitely a must watch.
