As someone from the north, it's very surreal to see such a high quality TV series about this period. The series clearly attempts to provide balance when looking at this period. Obviously the main focus towards the end is the disappeared, particularly Jean McConville and a few ex IRA volunteers, but it does an excellent job in portraying the motivations and circumstances of those who got involved with the IRA. The characters on all sides are developed and acted brilliantly, particularly Dolours Price and Brendan Hughes, and the odd bout of humour is very welcome and lands well. Overall this is a sometimes exhilarating but also thought provoking watch, I certainly felt it was worth taking a day out to watch!
Going into this movie tonight, I thought it was going to be absolutely terrible having read the reviews. I was a massive fan of the first movie so I expected it to be dramatically worse based on the critic reviews. Now, after watching myself, I'm convinced that the people saying this is bad simply didn't have the IQ to understand it at all! It looks like everyone has jumped on a bandwagon saying it's bad cause they have the attention span of a goldfish and can't watch a couple of 1 minute scenes of music in an over 2 hours long movie. And on the music scenes, they fitted well with the story and encapsulated the delusions of Arthur (or the Joker).
This series finally seems to be clicking, this season has been much stronger overall than the 1st one. This episode is filled with great combat and engaging scenes. Hell, Kwan doesn't even seem all too bad right now. Ackerson has been an exceptional addition, which is unsurprising considering how great his actor was in the vampire diaries and the originals. Players of the halo games will remember parts of chiefs conversation with Cortana, it's great to see the series taking more lines from the game so I hope that continues. No joke, I actually enjoyed this episode more than reach (which was also great). Please let this continue!
