This movie had potential to be a guilty pleasure flick, sadly though it just wound up being a lowbrow, kung-fu disaster. George Lopez is to blame for the many faults of this flop. George Lopez is not a, "comedian" that I find funny, but I tried this movie because Dan Fogler is hilarious and I thought I could ignore the annoyances of Lopez, I was painfully wrong. There is little to say about this movie, only that all the funny parts are what you see in the trailer for the film, and they are few and far between. The plot is very uneven and the flow of the story feels as if it were pieced together very quickly to save time, without worrying about the proper way to produce character development. George Lopez was ridiculous in this movie and his character was obsolete in regards to the plot. Don't waste your time or money on this flop. Once again, this is not the fault of Dan Fogler, he was merely the victim of by story writing, however, most of the blame goes the Lopez for his inability to generate humor in a should be comedy.
The Ex is a hilarious laugh out loud comedy that keeps it humor from beginning to end. Zach Braff and Jason Bateman are great together in this outlandish and offbeat comedy. Zach Braff plays Tom, a new father who is struggling to adjust to his new job, all the while battling his coworker Chip, played by Jason Bateman. As Tom continues to find a way to balance work and family, his nemesis Chip is plotting to push him out of his work and take his place in the family, but is Chip really who he says he is? There are no dull moments in this movie, however, if I had any criticism it would be of the editing. There are certain parts of the movie that felt as if they needed more explanation so that the audience could have a better understanding of why these certain scenes played out the way they did. Other than this one imperfection, there are no complaints as this is comedy is a winner!
This movie is like many other films in recent years, they promise comedy and they don't deliver. The movie starts out somewhat funny yet goes down hill as it progresses. There are too many slapstick jokes that fall flat, the characters are awkward, and they have no chemistry with each other. The car advertisement characters were ridiculous and they were completely without nuance in relation to the story plot, and they were both so unbelievably annoying that I had to mute the movie whenever they were on screen. This movie had far too many characters woven into the plot that were unnecessary and just weird, sadly not weird enough to be funny, but weird in the uncomfortable sense. However, the worst part of this movie were the NUMEROUS, "pull my finger" jokes. This movie is akin to EVERY Adam Sandler movie out there, though not written by Adam Sandler. I say that because of all the people that were needlessly and ridiculously injured throughout the movie. From the wheelchair bound man who keeps getting hit by cars, to the wealthy widow without any arms, this movie was a FLOP! After seeing this movie I got the feeling that this it was based in California, though it was not meant for an American audience. I wonder if this movie is something that is humorous to the region it is based on.
