Mehdi Fikri's first feature film is a powerful tribute to the families of the 861 people who died as victims of police violence between 1977 and 2022. It is within a fictional family that the all-too-familiar mechanism of police and institutional pressure is set in motion.
The story focuses on the consequences of the death of Karim, the youngest son, for each member of the family, with a great deal of realism and nuance. Camélia Jordana is impressive in her anger and determination, in the midst of a fair and convincing performance.
After the fire is a powerful and emblematic film, well worth seeing!
