Genuinely the most stunning, creative animation I have ever seen in my life. I seriously cannot process this, the 6 month break is starting to show. One of my personal favorite Animators, Vincent Chansard, worked HEAVY on this episode, providing a 1 minute 45 second sequence of the most beautiful, colorful, and creative action sequences we'll see for a while. It is super unusual for an animator of his caliber to work on such a long cut, this might be the longest cut I have seen in his portfolio. Besides the animation, everything is top notch, I was thoroughly invested in parts even outside of the main fight, and I hope this director becomes more involved with the series, as he also directed episode 1112. 10/10.
After the last episode I got my hopes down because I thought they spent all the budget on that episode. The animation was 10/10 the entire time, even when Vegapunk was explaining devil fruits it was well animated. There wasn't a second where that episode didn't look gorgeous, so I was fully expecting them to barely get by this episode. I WAS SO WRONG. This episode is another 10/10, the animation was amazing. They perfectly adapted all of luffy's major moves, another reason to watch instead of read. I am completely satisfied, they could animate the rest of this arc poorly and I'd be fine with what I have now. One thing that puts one piece over other shows in terms of animation is not just the fluidity and uniqueness, its also character acting. The personalities and charm is second to none, one segment of Luffy moving could have 9 different expressions that you won't catch at your first watch. This shined through during this episode and the previous one.
