This is a slow-paced modern Western with a time travel twist. People who expect science fiction or fantasy may be put off by the fact that this is primarily a story about rival families fighting over range land. Kind of. The reason why is what's different, here.
People who love Western dramas may be put off by the bizarre and completely unexplained physical feature on the land that allows time travel.
Perhaps that's why it didn't do well. Which is an absolute shame, because this well-acted, detailed, and incredibly intricate story is one of the most unique shows to come down the pipeline in a long time.
We keep asking them to make something different, but when they do, people don't watch. So, it's on all of you that we keep having the same overdone stories showing up over and over again.
You've got to give the weird shows some love.
I expected supernatural shenanigans or maybe aliens, and something incredibly shlocky with cowboys - and that wasn't what this show is, at all.
If you're on the fence about watching it, and you don't need nonstop action, definitely give this one a shot.
Just be forewarned - it's not finished. They canceled it WITHOUT a final wrap-up episode. Inexcusable in this day and age.
And we didn't find it until just a couple of weeks ago, so they needed to advertise it better, too.

The very best stories have an explosive climax and leave you feeling satisfied.
This film had no climax at all. Fascinating, mysterious, and... then it just stopped, basically in the middle of the story, and that's it.
No one lives, no one dies, nothing is resolved, no answers are learned, just stops. And the lack of ending causes all the walls of suspension of disbelief to come tumbling down in a pile of disappointment rubble.
And it has some ridiculously pretentious and artsy filmography. Like, we do not need to roll up to a view from above and then slowly pan out. It doesn't make the story better for the camera to climb the stairs upside down and backwards when there are no ghosts, ghoulies, or in fact any danger or drama whatsoever once you get there.
I'm sure someone thought this film had a point to make, but it was truly terrible storytelling. Yes, yes, we get it, everyone is too emotionally isolated from everyone else because of teh ebil technology. But, as the 'mom' in the story says... people are just awful, so what difference does it make? This film does nothing to prove her wrong, nor does it specifically vindicate her, but she's right regardless.

I want more, more, more unique, multicultural, global down and dirty urban fantasies. I'm so tired of the same old stories retold over and over again. This is definitely not the same old story.
I want to see TV producers and film makers taking more risks on new stories. Give us more complex, nuanced characters in situations where you can't be completely certain who's going to win! Show us more reality in places so many of us have never been, Teach us a little history, and then make it extra fun by bringing on the fangs and the magic!
There are too many people out there who don't want to look at the darker underbelly of today's world. Show it like it is, dig up every bit of it, and then sprinkle it with fairy dust so we can learn it without sinking into a depression for the rest of our lives.
Show us what they don't want us to see, fire some shots across the bow, but make it a good time so we don't lose hope.
