  • Best Star Trek media in decades

Strange New Worlds unites the new and the old to form the perfect Star Trek show. Set almost a decade before ToS, and directly following Discovery, Strange New Worlds somehow captures the best of both worlds. The feel of old Star Trek with the stunning visuals and production of New Trek. Anson Mount and Ethan Peck are amazing and really capture the essence that Spock and Kirk had back in the 60s. Returning characters like Nurse Chapel, Uhura, and Number One finally get the respect they deserve, while the show introduces several amazing new characters in M'banga, Hemmer, and La'an. The show retains a very episodic feel of old trek, but retains a compelling overarking story that tests our characters and allows us to watch them grow.

  • Second Season was phenomenal, 1,3,4,5 Meh

Star Trek discovery had a very tough start, trying to figure out how to stay true to a title present before Kirks voyage, but still with a modern feel. Stumbling its way through a visually stunning, but canon damaging first season, Discovery found its footing in the second season partly due to the phenomenal acting of Anson Mount and Ethan Peck. Still trying to figure out what it was, Discovery spent time developing its characters and figuring out where its place in the canon was. Despite finally finding its footing in the second season, Discovery seems to stumble its way through 3 more seasons unable to create compelling stories and characters that you can connect with. Michael Burnum becomes too likeable and nonconfrontational to the point where it feels less like a military grade ship of exploration and more like a support group for past traumas. The day is always won by feelings and understanding your enemies on a deeper level even when they're trying to kill you because they can. Discovery constantly gambles the fate of the universe on the ability of hostile aliens to feel emotions, and unsurprisingly wins the day because the plot demands that our hero's always have the moral highground and save the day.

  • Too afraid to have a message

Civil War masquerades as a action packed movie that aims to comment on the current state of political division in America, but is afraid to alienate any of its audience so it becomes a strange coming of age story. The movie also tries to comment on war journalism by presenting us with the dangers faced by journalists, but makes the main protagonist incredibly stupid just asking to get shot. She seems to actively want to die, and aims to take every down with her. However when the movie presented me with an action scene I was stunned. The Visuals and Audio were phenomenal. The Action scenes were done incredibly but my only wish was that the main characters weren't in them. In the end I was entertained, but disappointed.
