  • Pleasantly Surprised

A couple years back that kid from stranger things released a found footage horror movie called Spree. It's about a murderous, incel, wannabe influencer that goes on a killing spree. It was so bad that I made people watch it, not because it was funny-bad, but because I needed to share my anger with others---- this is like if that movie was good.

In general, I find found-footage to be boring and unimaginative. I gave this a shot, because I think Curry Barker & Cooper Tomlinson are funny in sort of a GreatValue™ I Think You Should Leave way. I was ready for this to be bad. Almost expecting it - but I was pleasantly surprised. It's fairly straightforward - Maybe a little bit derivative or predictable at times, but Barkers performance is what sells it. I was not prepared for him to be 1) good at acting 2) actually horrifying. Worth the watch. An impressive directorial debut.

  • Decent performance by Sharvari

Even though it's not a perfect movie since it fails to scare you in most of the parts which were supposed to be scary and create jumpscares. The character of Munjya is unique but should've been taken more seriously because it doesn't create the terror it should had on you as a audience. Nevertheless, it's a good one time watch movie with a few good comic scenes and the performance of the lead actor that is "Abhay Verma" , he has done an fantastic job in portraying every kind of emotion on the screen with perfection. Coming to the female lead , Sharvari did a decent job of portraying a girl next door kinda character. The other supporting cast were good .

Conclusion : Not the best movie to come out of this universe but definitely a good timepass watch on a weekend!

  • Good adaptation

I identified so much with Aza's thoughts and couldn't explain why. At the time I read the book, I was going through an extremely complicated situation and I couldn't explain what I was feeling, thinking, etc. It was a trigger for me to read about all that, but it was what made me seek help and start to understand myself better.

That was years ago and today (after months of putting it off, with uncertainty about whether or not I wanted to relive all that) watching the movie I was able to absorb everything better without being completely terrified by her thoughts that are so similar to mine. Maybe because it was a lighter approach to the story. I can understand Aza and myself much better today.

That said, I thought it was a very good adaptation. However, the book is deeper, it's uncomfortable to read just like it's uncomfortable to live with anxiety and I missed that for the most part. I remember it took me so long to finish because sometimes it was too much, I needed a break, I saw myself so much in the aza that it was almost suffocating. She is a character that has stayed with me ever since because she is so complex. And I have always found myself that way, complex (yes, I know how that sounds). Although her spirals were very accurate, in the book the author goes into much more depth on the subject and it would have been really cool to see the complexity of the character and the disorder explored more.
