I was hooked on this drama and finished watching 40 episodes in one week. The intimate scenes in the trailer fooled me into thinking this was a romantic drama. I am glad that it is not a cheesy romantic drama! It's actually a high-quality business drama with well-developed plot, solid and natural acting, clever dialogue, and well-controlled pacing. The business conversations are smart and realistic. The cinematography is one of the best I have seen in c-dramas.
The lead actors Simon Gong and Elaine Zhong portrayed the emotions of their characters very well. The supporting actors Morning Chang also performed well.

The drama spans more than 20 years and focuses on how hard-working and talented opportunists rise from the bottom of the Chinese social pyramid. The first 3/4 is very exciting, but the last 1/4 is a bit slow, thus I rated this drama a 9 instead of 10.
The acting of Zhang SongWen (who plays Gao Qiqiang) is incredible. He is a ruthless mafia boss but also a warm, loving father, husband, and brother. He handled the two faces very well. The scenes where he protects his family, showing warmth and strong humanity, really moved me.
The supporting actress Gao Ye (who plays Chen Shu Ting) is also very eye-catching. Her portrayal of the tiger mother is very realistic!

At first I had my doubt since I am more into mystery, detective or thriller drama than fantasy dramas. As I've heard good things about the actor Gong Jun and he is very good looking, so I give this drama a chance.
I watched it without any expectation and was amazed at how good Gong Jun's acting is. It is not easy for an adult actor to play a teenager (in the early stage of DongFang YueChu). His mannerisms and expressions made me completely convinced that he was a teenager. I didn't know he was in his late 20s when he filmed this drama; I thought he was in his early 20s! His crying scenes were also very nice and moved me very much.
The special effects of the drama are decent compared to other Chinese dramas. However, some of the scenes feel choppy. The important scenes were cut too short (e.g. How DangFong YueChu won and became the leader of Yiqi Alliance) while some irrelevant scenes were too long (e.g. Too much time was wasted on the love story between the supporting characters Hu WeiSheng and the forest spirit, which have nothing to do with the main plot). The editing or script has room for improvement.
