This movie portrais the life and work of Nan Goldin, one of the best photographers of all time. And while you could certainly fill a film (or many) with that alone, it also is more. It shines a light on her friends and companions, many of which are outstanding personalities and/or also great photographers. Furthermore, it shows her form of political protest for those who are helpless or don't have the impact she has and gives a good impression on the problems that art is mostly being funded by companies and/or individual rich people.
The storytelling is great, the insights are incredibly valuable and it's not "just" a biography, it's an interesting piece of art.

Being known for his jokes about marginalized people (in this movie mainly about gays) and for infantile jokes, "Bully" as he calls himself fully delivers.
The plot holes are gigantic, the motivation of the characters is totally unclear and the expected thrill of science fiction movies is yet to be found. As in many films of Bully, the ideas are copied from other films, this time from Star Trek and Star Wars.
The dialogues are not very well thought through and have mostly nothing to add to the story; the acting is less than average.
If you're looking for a good german comedy, you will certainly be displeased (watch e.g. "Go, Trabi, go").
