This is been my favourite Disney movie of all time for years (and it's kept that record ever since) for a myriad of reasons. Número uno, the animation. The animation is spectacular, especially the insanely fluid and cartoony animation on the Genie, my favourite character from the whole movie, which was mostly animated by one of my favourite animators of all time, Eric Goldberg. Número dos, the songs (especially Friend Like Me and Prince Ali, which are, of course, sung by the Genie) are really, really catchy. I've sung both of these songs back to back for an entire week now, and I'm still listening and humming to them! Overall, just a really good movie and possibly one of the greatest animated movies ever. And . . . Okay, I'm not going to say I highly recommend this movie for people that haven't seen it, which is what I usually say at end of my reviews, because based on how good this movie is, you've probably already seen it.
In the early 1880s, myself, Madam Florence IV and Sir Bartholomew VIII took a little trip to the nickelodeon for a night's entertainment, watching motion pictures. I was just a little chap back then - I was probably about 8 years old - and the people I'd mentioned earlier, Florence and Bartholomew, were actually my mother and father. This was actually my first ever time going to the nickelodeon and so, as expected, I was extraordinarily excited for my eyes to see a motion picture for the first time. And the first film that played on the projector was, you guessed it, Roundhay Garden Scene. My eyes almost burst out of their sockets and I was smiling from ear to ear, watching those men and women in tuxedos and dresses walking and dancing. And when the entire 2-second-long feature was finished, everyone in the nickelodeon, including myself, practically jumped out of their seats and there was a roar of applause and cheers from the audience! 8-year-old me even let out the tiniest tear from my left eye, amazed at what I had just seen. And if you're also from the 1880s like me, tell people from today's generation to go and watch this marvellous moving picture immediately.
