"Ye Hai Zi" feels real. It captures that overwhelming sense of helplessness, fear, and despair and projects it onto the big screen. But at the same time, there's a sense of warmth. You're right there with Ma Liang and Xuanxuan as they search for hope and a way forward. The film pulls you into the ups and downs of human nature, and you get a glimpse of life's complexities through the deep, almost familial bonds they share. Some movies reflect the past, others speak to the present, and some are meant for the future. So, where does "Ye Hai Zi" fit in? I'd like to think it's about the past, but with that glaring 388,000 figure in the closing credits, it seems more like a cautionary tale for the future-a restrained, thoughtful wake-up call for us all.
