I would hardly class the Canaries as 'hidden', to Europeans at least. The Canaries are the go to location for winter sun by Europeans, to the point where locals are now protesting against over tourism, placing a strain on local resources and pricing local people out of the housing market.

I've loved visiting the Canaries for many years during our British autumn, but am reluctant to go again due to the protest marches in tourist towns and beaches. I do understand the frustration of the local people. Maybe housing policy for locals needs to change?

As for the documentary, it is very informative, and yes, there are many desolate areas on the Canaries, but very swamped with tourists and tourist accommodation in the coastal resorts.
