Babyteeth and while the acting is top-notch, I've got to give it a 6 out of 10. Eliza Scanlen and Ben Mendelsohn absolutely shine, they bring so much depth to their characters and really pull you into their world. Their performances are raw and emotional, and they carry the film through some of its weaker points.
But as much as I loved the acting, the filmmaking didn't quite live up to it. At times it felt like a uni project. That being said, the performances make it worth watching, even if the film itself isn't perfect. If you're into great acting and don't mind a bit of rough filmmaking, Babyteeth still has something to offer. It's not a masterpiece, but there's enough to appreciate.

The music in this film is something else. Like I'm not even a big classical music fan but the way they used it in the story. Absolutely beautiful. Every piece felt so emotional and it made the big moments hit even harder. Alexandra Jensen as Ellie completely blew me away. Her performance was real and raw. You just felt everything she was going through. Especially in those music scenes. When she's playing it's like she's pouring her soul out. It gave me goosebumps. Her connection with the homeless guy Kevin was cool, I thought that was very cleaver. I loved how the film used music not just as a background thing but as its own character. It tied everything together and made the whole experience feel so much deeper. Some of the performances especially Alexandra's just wouldn't have hit as hard without it. I feel like the genre of this film might not be on the point but the actual film is great. This movie is a hidden gem. Heavy ending, but it's also inspiring and the music just takes it to another level. If you love films that are arthouse, cinema, and different, watch this!
I just watched The Promise on Stan and honestly, for a doco, I was blown away by the cinematography. Some of the shots were so beautiful, I thought I was watching a proper feature film. The music and visuals just pulled me in completely.
The way they handled the topic of suicide was done so well. It's a tough thing to talk about, but the message came through really clear. When Craig went to the small town, I thought that was really cool, it showed how much he cares about sharing his story and connecting with people. Felt really genuine.
The 4 personal stories at the end hit me hard. Those people are so brave for opening up like that. That's what this film is about, showing the truth of such a hard topic. I can't even imagine how hard this would've been to make for the crew. Huge respect to everyone involved, they did an amazing job.
Also, gotta say, Justin was so good. He really stood out to me, I could watch him in anything!
This is a must watch. Share it with your friends and check in with your loved ones, seriously! You never know who's struggling. The Promise is one of those films that really makes you think and feel.
