I came onto IMDb to check if this film would even be listed here after watching it at the Serbian Film Festival here in Sydney. When I found it listed I was really surprised at the low score it got! Personally I found it to be a good break from all of the garbage we are fed with films these days... It was wonderfully written and directed, and with such a low score, all I can imagine is that people just did not get it? Was it too much to grasp or was it just the fact that it was not a series of explosions followed by sex scenes?
If you're tired of the usual stuff out there, I urge you to find this film and watch it. It is a philosophy of life and death, and how we (humanity) are a lost child, still maturing ever slowly..

After reading many reviews about the inspirational and philosophical plot of this film, I was not completely satisfied. Yes, it does feature a few philosophical quotes which I think were quite nice, but that does not make the film philosophical. The acting by Nicolas Cage is the same as in every other movie, the self-pitying has-been or run down character that I do get tired of seeing. I also believe a few scenes (which I will not mention so as to not spoil the story) destroy what could have been a nice film. Aside from criticism, the film was intelligent, but I fail to see how a film can be rated as spectacular simply because it contains a few smart lines.
