  • Swipe Right on the Message, Left on the Story

Materialists is an okay film with a strong concept that doesn't quite live up to its potential. It kicks off with an intriguing idea-a critique of how dating operates through an invisible algorithm, pushing us toward partners based on social and economic traits rather than genuine connection. It also cleverly highlights how the wealthy can manipulate this "system" through plastic surgery and curated appearances, bypassing the rules the rest must follow.

The film's message is sharp, and it does make you reflect on how materialism and inequality shape modern relationships. But while the themes are relevant, the execution lacks freshness. The plot feels familiar and formulaic, offering few surprises or emotional stakes to elevate its commentary.

What lingers isn't the story, but the critique: how money and looks dominate even the most "organic" aspects of dating. A thoughtful film, but not a memorable one.

  • Freakier Friday is a hilarious

Freakier Friday is a hilarious, feel-good sequel that hits all the right notes-especially if, like me, you were a teen when the 2003 version came out and can quote it by heart. It's packed with clever callbacks and puns that had me laughing out loud.

Jamie Lee Curtis is even better this time around-her portrayal of a Gen Z soul trapped in an older body is comic gold, and she completely steals the show. Lindsay Lohan's return is just as welcome; her performance is charming, and it's great to see her back on screen. The record shop scene with Chad Michael Murray is pure nostalgic and hilarious chaos-my personal favorite moment.

What makes Freakier Friday stand out is that it doesn't try to remake the original-it builds on it. With Pink Slip throwbacks, returning characters, and a refreshed story that still feels original, this sequel is full of heart, laughs, and love for its roots. A perfect watch for fans of the first film, and a solid comedy in its own right. Highly recommended.
