I don't know how this show got renewed from the jump. To be fair, I could only get through the first season, but I don't know how anyone likes this show. I wanted it to be better, the universe had potential, there were a few phenomenal actors, and the production design was beautiful and clearly thematic (EXCLUDING the brushed out carpet they tried passing off as wigs and beards). But the writing is truly atrocious. I don't know if this is the fault of the source material or this adaptation in particular, as I have not read the books, but after watching this I will not be touching the books for fear of them being just as dull and simultaneously as predictable as they are nonsensical.
This episode gives me high hopes for the end of the season. It looks like we will be getting to a point where Eli's children will have to accept that life for both him and the family must go on. I also liked seeing the development with Pont and Gideon because it sets them up for finding their own paths by the end of the show (idk where Abraham will end up but he's still so young and they dont show him enough that idk if we should care.) While I am not ready to say goodbye to the Gemstones so soon, it feels like the conclusion of this series will satisfy the arcs where each character needs to grow for the story to feel completed.
