Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
12/10 - A masterpiece
The story says the same thing in different ways. Its time to let go and re start things from scratch. The sinchronicity of this movie happens and the launch of disney + with the expansion of all the starwerse is wonderful.
No, this is not the same star wars we've seen for the last 40 years, it's something else - its an evolution. Its for grown ups who are ready to take how much we loved the saga since its beginning and use it for the sake of laughter and new dimension of fun, magic, enjoyment and characters.
The star wars experience is still there - but one has to be open to new things and let Yoda himself burn the most sacred things down.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
Fantasy Soap Opera with an amazing production value.
Let me start simply summing up the first few minutes.
The main character Galadriel starts talking how in the begining all was light and no "darkness" was around. This Voice off happens as a group of elf childs bully Galadriel starting in the minute 1 - This looks like pretty dark to me - and followed by a forced an pep talk.
This patterns gets repeated almost every 5 min. Unnecesary drama followed by discussions, or cheap hero arguments way too before I could like any of the character to feel any empathy. In fact, all main characters seems to be complaining and narcisistic elfs with very human , soap opera's like kind of conflicts . So its hard to like them the way JRR Tolkien wrote aboute these characters and how Peter Jackson Presented them.
It feels like a very hard effort to create another product to make money with zero interest to understand the magic that made the original TLOTR such a big movement. This was the result of a Tolkien and Jackson combination who both knew very well who to express "light" and "darkness" in a very genuine and raw way. These series, at least what Ive seen so far has no sense of love and joy from the hobbits, no sense of grace and impeccability from the elves and the dark aspects are just... shy dirty stuff with good CG.
But at least we've got that - production quality. Too bad the rest is too washy washy blah blah drama.
Turning Red (2022)
Fun fun fun & different
What a lovely mixed up of westernized imaginery from east. True, its not what we use to see and defenitely its a movie with a lot of real young culture . If your above 30 just let it in - there is a lot love in this movie and precisely, to see whats beautiful in it you'll have to accept what the story is telling about acepting life changes and embracing what it may not be so cute.
The Adam Project (2022)
I don't care - Its just fun as hell!
Shameless fun with the already classic improvising dialogues from Ryan's. If you don't ask anymore from pretentious and over dramatic movies this is for you - damn even the kid kills it!
Shadow and Bone (2021)
Childish
Yes, the production design is fantastic and yet everything is quite immature.
Firstly I voted this show with a 5* half way the season due the poor actors performance , direction and a edit that lacks rhythm. I was having some fun though thanks to the vfx and photography.
Then I dropped it to 3 when the immaturity and stupidity in choices and dialogues made the plot reaching climax.
But when it really , REALLY falls all the way down to 1* is when the 3 "love stories" dragged us all the way to the ends the season not using a simple and clear " i love you" and continued with the childish dialogues.
Truly, its very sad to see people that needs to grow behind such shows that are so well received and applauded .
Tenet (2020)
Nolan-ism
Nolan could be one of the greatest directors in the last two decades. But I think he is starting to take himself too seriously when entertainment gets compromised by plot twist after plot twist , all backwards.
Waterworld (1995)
I wish Netflix productions to be hallf good at this
Good production design, good costumes, good and well crafted script with bold ideas , great edit and a great sense of adventure for the whole family that I wish for most Netflix shows .
The House with a Clock in Its Walls (2018)
The best of this movie are the audience reviews down here.
Don't watch the movie for the love of cinema or even fantasy stories - watch it and then come back here to read the comments. THAT completes the experience!
Fate: The Winx Saga (2021)
Another stereotype show with fancy effects.
One more show on the crappy high school culture of rivalry, popularity and narcissism.
Bridgerton (2020)
Drama for the sake of drama
Its a shame to see beautiful looking productions with lots of resources to take advantage and tell stories that are full of stupid drama for the simple reason to keep people watching .
Entertainment seems to have become cheap problem making of a story with hero characters driven in agony by selfish actions.
The Haunted Mansion (2003)
Totally under rated - fun and entertaining
If you like the Tim Burton's spooky kind of fun movies, this wont disappoint you.
Artemis Fowl (2020)
There is not love. Not a little.
Its not only a very bad movie - its also too obvious that is done just for the money making.
