  • Forgettable

I honestly didn't really have very high expectations going into this. I stumbled across the DVD and was just putting it on to waste some time. There was a lot of things I didn't really like, for instance: the majority of the acting isn't very good, however I think that most of the blame falls on the way the dialogue is written. And it doesn't help that the majority of characters are bland and forgettable. There is also some music that plays in the background through most of the scenes and it gets pretty annoying, the cinematography also has nothing to call home about.

The movies strongest attribute is definitely the main plot which follows drug addiction and how it effects us and those around us and how one bad choice can permanently effect our lives. I actually liked the ending as well, but I won't spoil it for you. However, I wish it would have gone all in and stayed more focused on the drug addiction aspect since the movie simply doesn't have enough interesting ideas of scenes for me to rate it very high.

Overall, the movie certainly had a lot of potential but unfortunately just didn't have the drive to get there.

  • I didn't realize the M in MCU stood for Monster

Let me start off by saying, that in my personal opinion this is the best MCU project I've seen in phase 4 so far.

This is a movie that really came out of left field for me. I really wasn't expecting Marvel to release a black and white, 1930s universal style monster movie, but I'm rather glad that they did. If you enjoy monster movies than I would definitely suggest giving this one a try. It doesn't try to add any thing new to the genre, but nevertheless makes a pretty enjoyable movie.

Now a few things that I wanted to discuss:

    1. The runtime The movie is very short, coming in at only 52 minutes (this runtime includes the credits) and it definitely could have used the extra time to build some more suspense and/or flesh out some more of the characters.

    2. The gore I believe that this is actually the goriest the MCU has ever gotten. I could be wrong since I haven't seen everything the studio has made, but without going into too much detail. Some people are show getting killed and some of the people get their limbs detached from their bodies. It's pretty tame compared to other movies you'd find in the horror movie genre, and with it being in black and white, it's mostly toned down. Just something I thought I'd mention.

    3. The comedy The MCU quite often leans inself more into the comedic side of things. But this time, I wouldn't necessarily prescribe going into this, thinking that it's a comedy, because it's not. It has a small amount of moments where they are going for a joke but it isn't really funny and comes off more lazy if anything.

Overall, I enjoyed it. I probably won't rewatch this anytime soon, because if I'm in the mood to watch this type of film, id probably watch a monster movie from the 1930s. This movie isn't going to change your life, but if you have an hour available and like this type of movie, I'd prescribe checking it out.

  • An experience

This is a movie that I heard so many good things about, I just had to watch it for myself. Was it a great masterpiece? Was it just an overrated piece of crap? Well the answer is yes and yes.

First the pros: 1. The score is fantastic 2. The movie is beautifully shot 3. There is a lot of symbolism in this movie 4. I think all the characters do exactly what is required of them without ever being annoying.

Now the cons: 1. Most of the scenes drag on way to long 2. I didn't really like the style of this movie it unfortunately makes me want to avoid other Stanley Kubrick movies 3. Finally the movie couldn't get me to care, if I don't care how the movie ends, something is wrong

While I understand how some people can love this movie, I also understand how someone can hate it. I'm glad that I watched it and would suggest you watch it(if you haven't) so you can make your own choice.
