First three episodes are very good. Proper war drama. Even if it was cheap war drama, with bad CGI and toy props, it still was very good war drama. But then came fourth episode and everything changed. Most of war drama has changed into dumb soap opera with emotions exaggerated below sane level and full dose of socialists propaganda. I watched a lot of modern, pro-Soviet Russian war movies and even they knew when to stop, when enough is enough, so the movie/tv series won't become ridiculous. Valley of Tears makers crossed that line too many times. Shame. It could have been so good...
I know it's too short for a "proper" war movie (Less than 90 minutes? Outrageous!). And I know it's a very short adaptation of a long novel. But I've read tens in not hundreds of books written by war submarine and destroyers commanders or historicians and I feel this movie is nearest to perfection of any other movie I've ever seen. Shortness of this movie made it harder to understand in technical matters but also cut all unnecessary sociological (and so on) dramas (except of shaking hands and tight boots, but the last one is so pure Polish :D). Why I didn't give 10/10? Cause the only Polish destroyer sunk during Atlantic convoys was ORP Orkan, which was a british M-class destroyer, and in movie they sunk ORP Victor (callsign Eagle), which was Grom-class destroyer.
With a little help of a romance and a very mediocre entertaining we've got a semi-real story of the best Soviet sniper-woman. It's far from real life (as historians proved that she was lying about her life many times) and it's full of Soviet propaganda - only Soviet/Russians were real victims of II World War, only they were brave and only they have to take losses. Watch it, but be aware of it.
