Well, honestly, it is a great series with a twisted, unexpected story, good acting and characters. I love how they mix old movies with the here and now (in the series, of course), as it is different from the rest out there. It is dynamic and yeah, a bit weird at moments, but hey who said movies have to be as real as possible, right? I was surprised in a good way and can't wait for a second season, if there will be one, of course. Overall, great series to watch with good soundtrack, weird humor, a little violence but for a good cause (if there can be such thing on planet earth, elsewhere it looks like it can)!
The show grips you from the beginning until the end, though I really disliked it at some points. The characters are both annoying and evoke empathy. The show is beautifully shot, keeping you engaged and triggering your nerves (kudos to the producers, directors, camera crew, and actors). However, the script has many holes and things that make no sense, diminishing its intended impact. It's a show for the US, lacking depth, or as the Romans once said, "panem et circenses." Oh, and the visual portrayal of killings might be unnecessary for some, questioning the need for such graphic scenes. If you have the time, watch it, otherwise I would not bother.
To the North is a movie about kindness, moral dilemmas, and the inability to escape. The story is worth telling and presents you with a whole other world far away into the ocean. But I have to be fair. The movie is quite slow, and the dialogues are not well written and kill the story. The sound is amazing at some points, but the music will go better with a movie with more suspense and action. The actors are good, and I believe that with better dialogue, we would see them in an even better light. The camera is amazing, which is one of the best things in the movie. If you want to watch an independent festival movie, this is the right choice, but if you expect great cinema move along.
